Now that spring is just around the corner, seems the wildlife is waking up too.

Well this was an unexpected treat!  Although not strictly a gardening topic, now that the garden season is upon us I thought it would be fun to share this fun experience.  Here in northern New Jersey the massive amounts of snow we received all winter long are finally melting to reveal grass again.  Spring flowers are just beginning to peak through and the local wildlife is waking up.  Our local wildlife officers needed to place a bear cub that was somehow separated from its mommy into a new den in the hopes that the other mother would adopt and care for it.  They tranquilized the mommy, weighed her and gave her an overall wellness check.  She had a tracking device on her neck from pervious years so they knew just where to find her.  Her own three cubs were put into the arms of people willing to hold them close and keep them warm. There was no shortage of people to help!  These cute little guys were born in January and just loved to be held close.  When it came time, mommy was carefully moved back into her den and the little ones placed with her.  The wildlife folks put some vapor rub under her nose.  Apparently by the time she works that off she will have covered the cubs with her own scent again, masking the human scent.
